Renovation Project at the Girls’ High School in Rural Pakistan

TT Global Foundation’s recent school renovation project at the Government Girls’ High School in Basiwala Village, Pakistan, highlights our commitment to providing girls in rural Pakistan with safe and well-equipped learning environments.

Schools in rural villages of Pakistan often face significant challenges due to insufficient government funding, leading to inadequate learning and sanitation facilities. This is especially so for girls’ schools, which accentuates already difficult circumstances for girls to access quality education.

TT Global Foundation recognizes that attaining gender equity in Pakistani schools requires private resources, and we are committed to acting to this end whenever the opportunity arises. Which is why we committed to completing a renovation project at the Government Girls High School in Basiwala Village, Gujranwala, following a request from the school’s principal, who had seen a similar school renovation effort undertaken by the Foundation in the neighbouring village, Noinke.

For many years, the Basiwala Girls High School has had inadequate infrastructure for delivering effective education. Poorly built classrooms leak when it rains, and insufficient buildings for the number of students at the school force many classes to beheld outdoors in the open, exposing students to the elements while they try to learn. In addition, sanitation facilities were wholly deficient, with faulty toilets posing health risks to students.

Our priority was to get students learning indoors, so we began by building a new 3-classroom teaching block, equipping it with furniture, ceiling fans, and lighting. We also renovated the existing classrooms, ensuring they did not leak and had the required furniture and teaching aids. We then constructed 5 new washrooms, with modern sewerage facilities, crucial to providing students with safe and hygienic sanitation facilities. We also wanted the students to feel proud of their upgraded school by refreshing and improving the school’s overall look, whitewashing the existing classrooms, corridors and boundary walls, and installing tuff tiles on the outdoor ground area.

Renovation projects like these bring hope to students and entire communities. By accessing safer, cleaner, and better-equipped schools, the confidence and morale of students and families are boosted. With the addition of new and improved classrooms, families have more confidence in sending their girls to school, which improves outcomes for the whole community.  This leads to an increase in literacy rate among the girls, empowering them to pursue better educational and job opportunities. TT Global Foundation understands and recognizes the importance of investing in girls’ education and will continue to work on reducing gender disparities in rural Pakistan.
